Hong T. Chau is an educational technology specialist. She earned a BA in Commerce, Organizations, and Entrepreneurship, an interdisciplinary study of business and organizational theory at Brown University. Hong recently completed her MS in Education at the School of Education at Johns Hopkins University online. Her graduate degree combines the exploration, the integration, and the management of technology in educational systems from the perspective of teachers and administrators. As an online learner and instructional designer, Hong understands the unique challenges of effectively designing and delivering content through online platforms.
Currently, Hong is a core member of the Academic Technology group, engaging the Brown University community to make technology more accessible to students and faculty. Recent projects include adopting campus-wide SAAS and cloud solutions, designing and launching a massive open online course (MOOC) through Coursera, conducting synchronous global classrooms, and redesigning curriculum to facilitate active online learning. Hong’s professional interests include faculty development, maker spaces and fabrication labs, blended learning methodologies, and knowledge management strategies for organizations.
Hong lives in Providence, RI where access to mountains, metropolises, and the Atlantic ocean lies within a 3-hour drive. In her free time, Hong is a fabricator of laser-made objects, an instructor for a non-profit artist community, a bicycle mechanic, and an all-around gear-head with a love for adventure.
